Welcome to Gene Commons
If you’ve ever Googled a genetic condition and ended up drowning in jargon, half-baked explanations, or twenty-page PDFs that begin with “Genetics is a rapidly evolving field”… well, we felt the same frustration.
Gene Commons was born out of that feeling. We attempt to build a space where genetics finally makes sense to everyone, from curious parents and patients to students, clinicians, and the hopelessly nerdy science fan.
Gene Commons is run by Dr. Sarath R S, a medical geneticist-in-training who spends his days toggling between clinic, laboratory benches, and research papers, and his nights trying to convert all that knowledge into words normal humans can actually understand. Genetics shouldn’t feel like a secret club. It shouldn’t require a PhD-level decoder ring. And it definitely shouldn’t confuse people at the very moment they need clarity the most.
We exist to fix that.
What We Do
We write. We explain. We demystify. And sometimes we rant lovingly about how mind-blowingly weird and wonderful human biology can be.
At Gene Commons, you’ll find:
Patient-friendly guides that break down genetic diseases, testing methods, prenatal screening, newborn testing, and everyday questions families bring to the clinic.
Clinician-facing explainers that simplify complex topics like variant interpretation, next-gen sequencing, metabolic pathways, and the tsunami of new genomic technologies.
Research-focused deep dives into evolving fields—SMA biomarkers, epigenetic therapies, genome editing, liquid biopsy methylation panels, long-read sequencing, single-cell technologies… you name it, we obsess over it.
Study resources for medical students, pediatric residents, and DM Genetics aspirants who want clarity, not clutter.
Weekly newsletters that curate the most important updates in genetics, without sounding like a robot reading a conference abstract.
Our Vision
To build India’s most trusted genetics education platform, one that bridges the massive knowledge gap between researchers, clinicians, patients, and the general public. A place where conversations about genes feel less intimidating and more empowering.
A place where learning feels like discovering a story, not memorizing a list.
Our Values
Clarity
No jargon unless we absolutely have to, and when we do, we explain it like your favourite teacher would.
Accuracy
Because genetics isn’t guesswork, and lives depend on precision.
Empathy
Behind every gene alteration lies a family trying to understand what it means. We never forget that.
Curiosity
If something new arrives in the genetics world, we poke it, dissect it, read about it, and write about it.
